Hamari silai foundation

Building a better future for women, since 2020

Through its training workshops, Hamari Silai, which translates from Hindi as ‘Our Needlework’, leverages craftsmanship as a tool to deliver autonomy and empowerment to women with otherwise limited opportunities.

About us

Who we are

Hamari Silai Foundation (HSF) is a non-profit organisation registered under the B.P.T Act of 1950. It was founded by three of us – Mohan Rathod, Maruti Chauhan and Dhanaraj Chauhan – on February 15, 2020, with the aim of creating a better, more equitable world for women than the one our mothers inhabited.

Our impact at a glance

Currently operating out of two centres - in Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Yadgir (Karnataka) - Hamari Silai empowers women through education, skilling and mentorship, and by providing opportunities to earn an income

What We do

Our efforts are aimed at lifting women out of poverty and, thereby, catalysing change in low-income communities like the ones we grew up in.

Our programme helps women to:

Help others. The benefits of HSF workshops ripple through the community as empowered women turn into role models for others

How we do it

HSF centres currently operate in Mumbai in Maharashtra, and in Yadgir, Karnataka.

We believe the wheel of social change, represented in our logo, will start to turn through interventions aimed at the capacity and confidence building of women. To this end, our Triple E model includes strategies focused on education, experiences and the exploration of new, sustainable opportunities to earn a living.
